The wait nobody budgets for

Costs
Twenty minutes to a day, and none of it is yours
Can it be hurried
Only by paying more, and only before you send

Every other pause in this run is something loading. This one is different in kind. Nothing is loading, nothing is stuck, and there is nothing on your side that can be adjusted once it has started.

Published exactly as supplied. Nothing on this site is monitored, tested or checked, so no address here is claimed to be working. What a copied address does and does not settle.

What actually happens here

You send a transfer. It goes out onto a network of machines that do not know or care about the market or about your evening. Those machines periodically bundle recent transfers together and agree on the result, and each round of agreement is one confirmation.

The market waits for some number of confirmations before it treats your money as yours. That threshold exists to protect against a transfer being reversed, and the threshold is not negotiable by asking.

So the sequence is send, then wait for rounds of agreement, then wait for the account to notice. Your screen shows none of that. It shows a balance that has not changed.

Why it varies so much

  • The coin. Different networks agree at different rates by design. One may aim for a round every couple of minutes and another every ten, and the market may require different numbers of rounds for each.
  • What you paid to send. Transfers compete for space. A low fee is not rejected, it is deprioritised, and deprioritised can mean hours during a busy period.
  • How busy the network is. Entirely outside your control and invisible from the account page.
  • How often the market checks. Even after confirmation, the crediting is not necessarily instant.

Only the second of those is a decision you make, and you make it at the moment of sending. After that the wait is fixed and watching does not change it.

What the confirmation wait is buying
  • It makes the transfer effectively irreversible, which is what allows the market to credit it at all.
  • It is the same rule for everybody, with no favours and no queue jumping.
  • It is honest about itself. Nothing is pretending to be faster than it is.
What it costs you
  • It arrives at the point of maximum commitment, right after the money has left.
  • It gives you no progress information on the page where you are looking for it.
  • It is the single biggest reason a first session does not finish in one sitting.
Where people stall

The stall is watching. People sit on the balance page and reload it, which does nothing at all, and each reload makes the wait feel longer than it is.

The second stall is interpretation. Twenty minutes of no change gets read as evidence of a problem, and the reader starts looking for something to fix. There is nothing to fix, and the available actions are all worse than waiting.

The third is the evening running out. This is the phase where a session that started at eleven quietly ends, and it ends at the worst point, which is with money sent and nothing showing.

How long this really takes
What people expectA few minutes, like a transfer between two bank accounts
What it usually costsTwenty minutes at the good end, several hours at the ordinary end, a day at the bad end

The gap between the expectation and the reality is the widest anywhere in this run, and it is the single reason the ninety minute frame is a frame rather than a promise.

How to spend the wait usefully

  1. Look up your transfer on the network itself rather than in the account. That is where progress is actually visible, and seeing it move is the only real reassurance available.
  2. Write down what you sent, when, and to which address, outside the account.
  3. Do the reading for minute 60 while you wait. Search behaves oddly here and it is better learned without a balance burning a hole.
  4. Do not send anything else. Whatever the temptation, a second transfer is the expensive answer to a question you have not asked yet.

The honest position on the numbers

Nothing on this page is measured. The ranges above are the shape of a common experience rather than a figure anybody collected, and a site that gives you an exact average is either quoting somewhere else or making it up. This site prints no live figures of any kind, for the same reason it publishes no ratings.

In one line

The one pause in the run that nobody controls. Watch the network rather than the balance, and never answer the wait by sending again.
